The principle of Give Away

posted on: 10.04.2010

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' Acts 20:35

It's stewardship month at my church! I just wanted to share some points about this very important principle. Giving is an attitude of the heart. God doesn't make us give, He simply lets us decide on how we worship Him. Giving is an act of worship. If not done properly (as Scripture tells us, like with our tithing), it can also cost us our salvation. When I learned the principle of giving, I did it because I wanted to receive MORE than what I was giving. But I was missing the point. Giving has to do more with obedience than obligation. I give because I love God so much that it is my gratitude, not because I have to. And in return, He promises that I will never lack. He never said I was going to have more than what I gave. Blessings and prosperity aren't about money only, there's other ways God wants to bless you! Like by giving you health or favor in another area. If my attitude is to love God, then I am going to give. And as I give what I've been given, He will give me more seeds to sow.

In Malachi 3:10 it says "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it." Tithing is the only spiritual principle in which God tells us to challenge Him. Isn't that powerful? God is serious about giving. I encourage you to test Him (I did it personally and I saw Him work. I don't know how He did it but I was tithing more than $10 a week before I even had a job!! Isn't that crazy? I had no income. God honors your faith and obedience).
