Sweet Delight

"Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart."
- Psalm 37:4

Nothing like a cup of hot tea and a book to satisfy me, right? Actually, even though a book and a cup of tea sounds really nice in any setting, I have found nothing comparable to my delight in the Lord. As I write this, I know that many of you don't understand how on earth I could possibly be in love with God, and I'll do my best to explain; only a few understand that which is our greatest joy in life, having an intimate relationship with the Creator of all things beautiful and glorifying Him (Rev. 4:11). We all have longings and desires. These desires are God given. Amy Carmichael once said: It is a safe thing to trust Him to fulfill the desire which He creates.

It's true. In fact, He alone can fulfill them. He is far more able to meet our needs than anyone ever could. When you find your happiness and joy in your relationship with the Lover of our soul, seasons may change but you will stand firm. He never changes. It may rain, and you will still sing. The enemy can try to take everything from you, but he can't take how we delight in the Lord. He can't rob us from being pursued by the King of kings. Join me with the psalmist as he declared "
Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you." (Psalm 75:25)

I encourage you to fall in love with Jesus. A good way to be intimate with our Savior is by praying. I have recently accepted a challenge of praying for a whole hour, crazy, I know! But I've met mighty godly men and women who've prayed for 7 hours!! I'm sure we can manage an hour. Here's an example you can use:
5 minutes - worship
5 minutes - thanksgiving
5 minutes - confession
5 minutes - pray for your family
5 minutes - pray for unsaved friends/family
5 minutes - pray for school/job
5 minutes - pray for missionaries
5 minutes - pray for authorities/leaders/church
5 minutes - personal requests
5 minutes - ask for wisdom, grace, & humility in specific areas that need improvement
5 minutes - Ask for abundant blessing

2 Smiles:

  1. Glad you have such an intimate relationship with the Lord. It would be nice if everyone would allow God to live in them. And I like your idea of a prayer plan too! Have a blessed evening!

  2. I love this plan! It makes it seem so much easier to truly focus on what is needed in life for an hour! Great idea!
