just wait

I believe there is something wrong with Christian relationships. I know that is a very blanket statement, but please understand my heart. Before marriage there is a dating/ courtship season, and before that a single season. The divorce rate is the same in the church as it is outside of the church. Therefore something before the Christian marriage had to have gone wrong. I think the key that so many Christians have missed is the art of waiting! But before that problem is exposed, I have to mention the problem just before that: jealousy.

I was in Psalm 73 today. Asaph writes about how he was almost jealous of the wicked, mainly because their ways seem to work out just great for them. God revealed to me that so many Christians are jealous of the wicked. I don’t think it’s a jealousy like envy, but a jealousy that sparks rebellion.  Singles are longing for a soul mate. So much so, that they rush into whatever relationship they can, because frankly, God is taking too long, and everyone else is doing it. Couples are continually blurring the lines of what is okay physically and what is not, based on what everyone else is doing. It’s that jealousy that doesn’t allow the Christian to truly wait on the Lord.

Oh, if only the Christian could just wait! Single person wait on the Lord! Wait on HIS timing! Is it easy? No, but boy is it worth it! Couples wait on the Lord! Just because you know you are meant to be together, doesn’t mean now is the time to be together.

I think we are in a constant waiting period with the Lord. I’m glad for it, honestly. Why, because I’m starting to see the rewards of the wait. I see a beautiful girl in my future. A girl who God made just for me! If I can say one piece of advice, it would be to just wait. Wherever you are, whomever you are with, wait. I’m sure you can apply that to whatever the situation. At the end of Psalm 73, God reveals to Asaph that the wicked will be in pleasure no more. In the moment, Asaph didn’t see it; he had to wait on a response from the Lord to truly see where the wicked stand. God wants to bless all who wait on Him.

  2. I agree, and I think the definition of "waiting" and what you're waiting for is very fluid and differs from person to person, to be honest. I know when I was younger, I rushed into a lot of things that I wasn't ready for. It came back around to burn me badly. I'm not perfect now, my relationship isn't perfect now, but hopefully I've learned some lessons.

I think if God is ultimately your center and the focus of your relationship, things will become much more clear as far as the "whats" and the "whens" of your relationship.

  3. So true! Young single Christians are constantly bombarded with marriage/finding that perfect someone. Most of my friends are in that waiting period right now, young, 20somethings and single. Thanks for sharing such wisdom:-) xoxo

  4. That is so true! Oh how easy it would be to rush into relationships because they can truly be wonderful things. But you're right, God has that someone set out for us for that perfect time, and though it may squash it us to wait, it's PERFECT.

  6. I believe that while i'm waiting, i'm building maturity, mind, and heart to be ready for the man God has for me. Thank you, this was so encouraging. Young Adults need to hear this, especially since we are the next generation. Blessings on your own relationship. :)

  7. I totally agree with your words. My husband and I wanted to wait until we get married to share the intimacy God allows a married couple to share. We waited 3 years and now that we are married we can really testify that it was the best decision we took for our couple, our relationship, and our desire to put God first. "When there's a will, there's a way" : during this waiting time the Lord teached us so much about the marriage. Today we share this with all the people who are waiting for the one.
