"If God is sovereign, then He is in control of all the details of my life. If He is loving, then He is going to be shaping the details of my life for good. If He is all-wise, then He's not going to do everything I want because I don't know what I need. If He's patient, then He is going to take time to do all this. When we put all these things together- God's sovereignty, love, wisdom, and patience- we have a divine story."
- A Praying Life: Connecting with God in a Distracting World, Paul Miller
The Lord is teaching me about prayer. It's actually the area I most struggle with, for a number of reasons. One of them being that I just struggle with communication. You may think I don't, but the fact is that I can write, sing & paint what I feel, but I can't really speak what I feel. I would speak with pictures if I could, but photography is limited; it cannot capture all of me.

It's a process, to put in audible words what one wants to say. I actually admire those who can. How do they do it with such ease? Yet, He is teaching me. He is shaping me to be a prayer warrior. That in my weakness, He is strong. The best advice He's given me is that the enemy wants us to be silenced. There is so much power in our words!
So far I've learned that:
Prayer can change anything.
Prayer connects you to God.
It is not about the words you say, but who you are talking to.
If you lack a prayer life, you don't really know God.

What does your prayer life look like? Are you connecting with God? If you're also lacking on prayer, tell the Lord to teach you how to pray. Because really, what you're saying is, "God, make yourself known to me".
You too can be a part of His divine story.

  1. wow. that miller quote is heavy duty.
    thanks for sharing this!
my prayers have been mostly scripture, praying them word for word, to the king. i am weary and having trouble organizing my thoughts lately. so thankful that god can hear my heart, even when i can't!

  3. I agree completely.
Prayer is one of the things I had struggled with for the longest time but God really broke through. I can't always pray like I should, and I still beg God to teach me how to pray. But it's a process.
It's what moves us from religion to a relationship.

  5. Great post. Its so good to be reminded about our prayer life. If I am not reading the Bible, on a regular basis, my prayers become stale.. which I don't want at all! this is an encouraging post! thanks!

  6. Very encouraging! I don't think I really had an active prayer life until someone introduced me to the whole journaling thing years ago =)

  7. you sound so faithful! And I love your poll. I once heard a quotealong the lines of: we frantically race to meet doctor, hairstlye, and every other appointment but we think nothing to postpone our daily interview with diety.

    Love, Alexis

  8. I completely agree that speaking what you feel is so much harder than writing it, singing it, painting it, etc. I am constantly trying to better my communication and my relationship with my Heavenly Father. Thank you for you inspiration! {And thanks for stopping by my blog!}
