Gladys Aylward, the "Small Woman" of China, told about how when she
was a child she had two great sorrows. One, that while all her friends
had beautiful golden hair, hers was black. The other, that while her
friends were still growing, she stopped. She was just 4 feet tall. But
when at last she reached the country to which God had called her to be a
missionary, she stood on the wharf in Shanghai and looked around at the
people to whom He had called her. "Every single one of them," she said,
"
had black hair. And every single one of them had stopped growing when I did. And I said, 'Lord God, you know what you're doing!'"

You can't understand the
design (the way you were made) unless you're the
Designer (the One who made you).
so true and so very beautiful.
ReplyDeletehowever, i do think that Gladys was four feet tall, not four inches. it did make me smile, as a fellow short person. :)
Love this post - a beautiful reminder that we were made on purpose and for a purpose!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! I love how God plans things for a specific reason, and though we may complain along the way, it is brought to reason in the end!
ReplyDeleteLovely!
Oh. So very true. How dare the clay cry out to the potter and ask what He is doing??!

I love that last bit; "you can't understand the design until you understand the designer" soo good.
ReplyDeletei LOVE the quote at the end! it all starts with the Creator!
ReplyDeleteI love this post. God is so good and I don't know how often I realize that GOD knows what He is doing...
ReplyDeleteHe most certainly does. And boy do I look forward to the places He leads me with Him as my creator. paving the path and lighting my feet with each step I take..

simply beautiful... God knows exactly what He's doing. I can totally relate.
ReplyDeleteSo true! Beautiful! I know I always wanted green eyes, but God gave me brown. I always recall the story of Amy Charmichael and how she would have never been able to rescue children in India if she had colored eyes because they would have known she wasn't Indian.
ReplyDeleteGod is amazing, and He knows what He's doing.
"And I said, 'Lord God, you know what you're doing.'"
ReplyDeleteNeeded that tonight. God bless.
lovely:)
ReplyDeleteha! I love this! I've always been the shortest one among my friends and family. I have always wondered what it would be like to be the tall one. This summer when we traveled to the Indian villages, I was the tallest one! And I am 5'2. I was only taller by an inch or two, but this post describes how I felt. I finally knew why I am short (my husband too is too)! ;) There were some other areas too that I finally realized "God made me this way so I could live here!" It was such a beautiful revelation.
