a watch in the night

posted on: 2.12.2013

Being 21 is has become part of my past. As of today, I am officially another year older.
For the record, I haven't felt older since my 18th birthday, probably due to the fact that I still look like I'm 18. Just the other day I was looking for a dress for my rehearsal dinner and the sales associate thought I was the model who was scheduled to go in for a fitting. She could hardly believe I was getting married.
"You're look so young!" she said.
"Well, because I am," I thought to myself.

I'm glad I'm young. I've done a lot for the kingdom of God and I wish to do even more. I'm not "just" getting married at 22, I'm doing much more than that! I'm following God's will for my plan and starting ministry alongside a passionate follower of Christ. I'm following where He leads & obeying Him as I go step by step. I have no regrets on where I'm headed. I'm so glad I'm still just 22.

I've been meditating on pieces of Psalm 90:

Lord, you have been our dwelling place
in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
    from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

For a thousand years in your sight
are but as yesterday when it is past,
a watch in the night.

You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream,
like grass that is renewed in the morning:
in the morning it flourishes and is renewed;
in the evening it fades and withers.
For we are brought to an end by your anger;
by your wrath we are dismayed.

You have set our iniquities before you,
  our secret sins in the light of your presence.
For all our days pass away under your wrath;
we bring our years to an end like a sigh.

The years of our life are seventy,
or even by reason of strength eighty;
yet their span is but toil and trouble;
they are soon gone, and we fly away.
Who considers the power of your anger,
and your wrath according to the fear of you?

So teach us to number our days
that we may get a heart of wisdom.

Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,
that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,
and establish the work of our hands upon us...

God is eternal and my 22 years of life are but a dream in comparison to His eternity.

However much I'll live is but a watch in the night: insignificantly brief.

My desire today is to be able to surrender my life, not waste it. I want to be able to recognize how brief my life is and to spend it as I should, in pursuit of my calling. This is having a heart of wisdom, being satisfied & glad in light of His boundless, limitless love. My life is but a breath but I live for the One who is eternal.

"If we commit ourselves to Christ
And follow in His way,
He'll give us life that satisfies
With purpose for each day." —Sper
